The Georgia Antiquarian Booksellers Association (GABA) is happy to announce that the GABA Book & Paper Fair returns this year to the annual Decatur Book Festival, Labor Day Weekend, September 1st and 2nd. The book fair is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.
This year, the Book & Paper Fair moves to a new venue, the Ebster Recreation Center, located at the corner of Trinity Place and Electric Avenue, two blocks from the Square. It’s a great place for this year’s book fair. Look for the colorful signs down McDonough and Trinity to direct you! And unlike shopping online and looking for a specific book, when you’re browsing multiple dealers you’ll discover new titles, and learn about all sorts of related books, books you’ll treasure. In addition to the vendors, there will be drawings for books and other great items.
There also will be four book-related presentations during the book fair, two on each day. On Saturday, you can learn about book collecting and about book binding and conservation of your rare books. On Sunday, two of our expert book dealers (read “authorities!) will each discuss a well-known author: America’s first “muckraker” journalist, H.L. Menken, and England’s beloved author C.S. Lewis. All four sessions should be fascinating — and definitely worth any book lover’s time!
According to Libby Ware, GABA president and owner of Toadlily Books in Atlanta, “When browsing a book fair, you’ll find things you never even knew existed – until you see them! We have over two dozen booksellers from around Georgia and the Southeast — booksellers knowledgeable about all aspects of book collecting. All in one place!”
